About
Healing Addiction in our Community (HAC)
HAC is a non-profit 501c3 dedicated to providing education and awareness surrounding the substance abuse issues affecting NM. HAC was formed in April of 2010 by a group of parents and grandparents concerned about the rising use of heroin among local teens. Many of our members have been affected by the devastating effects that addiction has had on our families and our youth and we decided to take action and do something about it.
Follow us on social media to stay updated on upcoming events and volunteer opportunities. We focus on education and raising awareness about addiction at schools, community events, and health fairs. While we are not a support group, many have found comfort in connecting with others who have experienced similar losses and challenges related to addiction. Together, we can create understanding, hope, and healing.
Meet our Executive Director, Jennifer Weiss-Burke as she shares all that is Serenity Mesa.

Serenity Mesa Recovery Center
Serenity Mesa Recovery Center is a transitional living center in Albuquerque, NM, offering a comprehensive, compassionate approach to recovery for youth.
We serve young people ages 14–20 who are struggling with addiction to drugs and/or alcohol, and who may have co-occurring mental health disorders. Our Crisis Triage Center provides medical detox services, while our inpatient program includes over 90 days of housing, therapy (individual and group), life skills development, education support (high school/GED prep), job readiness, medication management, and more. Our goal is to help youth build a foundation for lasting sobriety and independence.
For youth ages 17–24 experiencing homelessness or unstable housing, we also offer a rental assistance program to support safe and stable living environments.
At Serenity Mesa, we believe recovery is about more than just abstinence—it’s about creating a life where drugs and alcohol no longer have a place. We help clients find purpose, build healthy relationships, and discover that a sober life is not only possible but rewarding and fulfilling.
Through evidence-based programming in a supportive sober-living environment, we bring together the tools and resources young people need to thrive.
Program Goals
At Serenity Mesa, our primary goal is to help young people achieve lasting recovery by equipping them with the tools and support needed to live healthy, independent, and fulfilling lives—free from drugs and alcohol.
We focus on therapies and activities that promote long-term sobriety, personal growth, and life skills development. Clients who stay with us for 90 days will leave with the knowledge, coping strategies, and confidence necessary to maintain a drug-free lifestyle and successfully re-enter their communities.
Each client works with our team to create a personalized treatment plan, tailored to their unique needs and goals. This plan combines evidence-based treatment approaches with alternative therapies and services available both on-site and through trusted community partners.
A key part of our program is fostering a sense of responsibility and ownership. Clients are expected to contribute to the daily upkeep of Serenity Mesa, treating it as their home. This includes chores such as cleaning, cooking, laundry, yard work, and general maintenance—important life skills that reinforce personal accountability and community living.
Admission Requirements
To be eligible for admission, Clients must have a diagnosed substance use disorder. Clients must also be willing to engage in treatment and commit to following Serenity Mesa’s policies and procedures and “rules we live by”.
